Pottery: William Marshall exhibition in Cornwall

EVENT EXPIRED
If you’re holidaying in Cornwall this month, make sure you don’t miss a lovely new exhibition of previously unseen works by the revered potter William Marshall at Kestle Barton. Karen Townshend has spent the last 5 years restoring the old Cornish farmhouse and converting the barns into holiday cottages and a gallery with a sculpture garden. It’s a beautiful setting for the show, which has been lent from the collection of Paul Vibert, and it showcases the work of Marshall, who, along with Bernard Leach, is regarded one of the foremost British Studio potters of the twentieth century. With his distinctive forms and rich glazes, Marshall was one of the leading lights of the Leach Pottery in St Ives (he served as a foreman and right hand man to Leach), but he also emerged as a bold talent of his own. It’s a rare opportunity to see (and even buy) his works – so if you anywhere nearby, don’t miss.
