Blog: a lovely new hotel in Stockholm
Last week, I went to Stockholm with my boyfriend who was there for business. We started off staying at The Grand Hotel but we found it, well, rather too ‘Grand’ so we decided after his meetings were over, to move on elsewhere. We had dinner with two architect friends who had worked on and recommended a newish hotel called Story. Located centrally above a fun restaurant and bar, it was good value and seemed a great find. That was until we got there to find our room was on the first floor so when we opened the window at night there was lots of noise and smoke from downstairs. So off we went on our travels again! This time, we struck lucky. We’ve often stayed at the Lydmar Hotel but in search of something new, we booked into Ett Hem. Open just a week when we arrived, Ett Hem has only 12 rooms and inhabits an old townhouse in the Ostermalm area. Whilst not as ideally located as the Lydmar, it more than made up for it with the great service, delicious food and general decor. We met Jeanette Mix, the owner, who explained that she wanted visitors to feel like it was a home from home and it really was super comfortable, from the beautiful garden to the Khiel’s products in the bathroom (large bottles, not the teeny tiny size that feel like they won’t last more than one shower). Decorated by Ilse Crawford, I loved the mix of modern furniture and it even won Tyler Brule over who wrote a rave review in that w/e’s FT.
