DVD: The Trip
If you didn’t see The Trip on BBC2 a few weeks ago, lucky you. The DVD of the six perfect episodes is the perfect accompaniment to January hibernation. Coogan and Brydon play exaggerated (or not) versions of themselves on a road trip, reviewing posh restaurants in the north of England. They eat, drink, quote passages of Coleridge, wind each other up, drive each other mad, admire the incredible landscape, read out bits of history, flirt inappropriately with women, and compete at impersonating Michael Cain. Directed by filmmaker Michael Winterbottom, it’s funny and edgy and inspired. It makes you long to drive round the North too.
