Film: The Secret in Their Eyes

A film that beat both The White Ribbon and A Prophet to win the Oscar for best foreign-language film at this year’s Academy Awards has got to be good – and it is. Directed by Juan Jose Campanella and set in Buenos Aires, The Secret in Their Eyes follows criminal-court investigator Benjamin Esposito as he looks back on a former rape and murder case. Surprisingly funny, it is an intelligent, understated thriller and love-story with a haunting twist at the end.
